From the Editors: The 1st Annual High Contrast Awards

Alex and Nate:

This year, instead of doing a standard Oscar predictions post, we decided to name what we feel were, by category, the best achievements in film for 2018. Because narrowing this down is hard, we will also recognize the runners-up in each category.

In some cases, the chosen winners are the result of compromise between us. Reaching a consensus meant that the differences between our year end top 10 lists would have to be reconciled. After much debate, we’ve reached a consensus and have a list of winners we’re both proud of. Had we made individual lists, the results may have differed a bit, but there is something to be said for negotiation and compromise. I’ll stop blabbing now and get to it, something I wish more award show hosts would do. Welcome to the 1st Annual High Contrast Awards! Let’s begin.
